Zach's Second Birthday

My youngest, Zach, turned two yesterday. As I like to do, I wanted to write a little tribute to him in honor of this most special occasion.

Zach was a bit of a "surprise", but a wonderful, joyful one. He entered the world when Molly was 17 months old and Abby was 5. My first and only son. I wasn't really sure how different it was going to be to have a son, only that I knew it would be different. And boy, is it.
Zach is also my baby. It is so true what they say, too, little boys love to cuddle. Zach is affectionate and loving. If we are home together he wants to be in my lap cuddling and rocking. He will sit in my lap while I am on my computer and in my lap while I watch television.  He will tell me, repeatedly, "I love you". Little boys are just so very sweet.
He loves his sisters. He looks for Abby all day when she is in school and will follow her to the ends of the earth when she's home. He and Molly have a very special bond...they can be love/hate, but they remind me of my brother and me. When the going gets tough and one of them starts crying you better watch out because the other will come out of nowhere to comfort, console and seek retribution for the other. I cannot wait, I think, to see how this will play out when they are in school!
Zach is just overall an even tempered, though he does have his moments, calm, loving little boy. He will make his opinions known, but is really quite easy to console. The other night the three of them were eating dinner. Molly and Abby finished and went to play. Zach discovered I was in the living room finishing my dinner, so he brought his plate, cup and chair in and sat with me. When I was finished, he looked up at me and said, "Mommy, done? Mommy, done?" When I said, "yes", he picked up my bowl and carried it to the kitchen. Then he crawled up on the couch and cuddled up next to me.  My little man. My southern gentleman. I am so proud to be his Mommy.

Happy Birthday, son!
