Karaoke? Me?

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about my passion, singing. In it I said if I could do or be anything I would want to be a singer. I sing in my car, in my house, wherever...  I just love to sing. It centers me, it calms me, it makes me very happy. I have sung in choirs, choruses and have helped teach a children's choir at church. What I have not done, however, is sing alone in front of anyone...ever.

However, it appears the opportunity may just be about to present itself. I have a friend that wants to take me to a karaoke bar. Uh oh, cue the butterflies in my stomach. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE to be the center of attention (I know, shocker, huh?), I can easily laugh at myself (and usually do so on a daily basis) and really WANT to do it. But I imagine, perhaps, it's a bit like jumping out of an airplane the first time. You want to do it really badly with every fiber of your being (Ok, I have no desire to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but follow my logic here), you know it will be fun and once you do it the first time the scariness of it dissipates and it becomes fun. I am thinking karaoke is probably very similar. Well, ok, at least in my mind it seems very similar.

I think singing in front of people just makes you very vulnerable.  It is especially that way to me because it means so much to me, because I enjoy it so very much. However, regardless of what anyone else thinks, I will still enjoy it and I doubt it would stop me from singing! But you really have to put yourself out there and open yourself up to actually sing. Even if most folks listening will be drunk. Maybe if I wear a really low cut shirt they won't notice my singing?? Hmm...might have to think about that one...

So, what do ya'll, my most trusted advisors, think? Should I brave it and go for it? Get really drunk first? Or, oh hell no, don't even consider it?? My fate is in your hands, people...

I am not the biggest fan of karaoke when the singers are really trying hard. I DO like when they are awful and proud of it; not b/c I want make fun of them, but it just makes the mood light and fun b/c no one is taking themselves seriously.

Give it a try, but remember to have fun! What do you plan to sing?

3-Thank you! That was exactly the perspective I needed! I will just laugh my way through it! Perfect! I have no clue what I would sing. There are a few Sugarland, Trisha Yearwood, LeeAnn Womack songs I think I sound best on, bit we will see, that is if I even get the nerve to actually do it!

If it is kinda like jumping out of an airplane....then maybe your friend just needs to give you a little shove! LOL Go for it! It is a heck of a lot of fun!

I think something fun and campy like "Fancy" by Reba McIntire would be a fun one to sing. LOL.

Have a good time! And be sure to blog about it.

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!

Only once have I attempted a Kareoke sesh.

A few half decent singers had been on.

Then it was me.

Four Dinners sings "My Way" - the Sid Vicious version.

Went down a storm.

By the end there was a riot in the pub...windows were smashed...fights broke out...tables flew across the pub lounge...

I have never had that effect on peeps before or since.

Marvellous.

Enjoy babe!!!

I've done karaoke once and I'm pretty sure I'll never do it again. Unless I get that drunk again which is doubtful. The only reason I remembered the karaoke that night is because someone taped it.

Hey! That's a great idea. We want video of you doing karaoke. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that. ;-)
