I have a friend I play trivia with every week that finally (ha ha) took the time to read some of my blogs recently. He used to write a column for our local "City Paper" so I was a little nervous even suggesting he read what I have been babbling on about the past few weeks. When he left trivia last night he said he was going to go home and read up on my musings. Oh boy...
When I turned on my computer today I see he sent me an instant message that said, simply, "short but decently written...I could use a little more controversy, though".
I find this so funny. I am always very nervous when I ask one of my friends to give me feedback on what I've written. Although I want truthful, constructive criticism, I also hold my breath waiting to be told it is mindless drivel and has so many grammatical errors I should be embarrassed! Mercifully this hasn't happened, yet. Mostly I've received very positive feedback from my friends and fellow bloggers.
I am still finding my voice and finding my way through this whole blogging thing. I have been given some excellent advice and am always appreciative of other bloggers insights. I have a few friends that know me really well and that will, at some point, call me out and tell me to cut some of the fluff and let my voice come through. Like I said, this is a work in progress and only about four weeks old!
I am in no way controversial, at least not on this blog. Anyone that knows me at all knows I do have beliefs that I feel strongly about and that could be controversial. But I suppose anyone's beliefs could be labeled "controversial" if they are in disagreement to the person reading them. I just have not had the occasion to post about anything that some could see worth debating. I am sure I will, at some point. After all it is fun to express opinions and have a fun, good natured debate. I was just talking about this last night. It can be quite intellectually stimulating and if done correctly educational to all involved. Perhaps I will come out of my shell (ha, don't think I've ever said that about myself before!) and discuss something debatable on here in the near future. That might be kind of fun...wonder where I should start?

Hi! I'm a first-time commenter. I like your blog! I TOTALLY understand about trying to find your blogging voice. I feel that that is what I'm trying to do right now as well. I look forward to reading more!
Thanks so much! I'll head over and check yours out too!
I think expressing honest opinions is important... don't be afraid to tell it like it is, but I think too many people are deliberately controversial... they enjoy getting a rise out of people. It's attracts readers, but I don't think it's necessary to piss people off just for the sake of pissing people off. So that's my semi-controversial two cents. Followed by a ha ha and a lol so nobody gets too offended. Oh yeah and a smiley face.
Ahhh, yes, the 'lol' 'haha' 'smiley face' just to soften the blow. The internet version of the old southern saying "bless her heart"!
You are so right so many just try to stir things up. I think if it comes from the heart and you want to put it out there, go for it. I just haven't yet, at least not much, but you never know what I may decide to write about at some point!
Thanks so much for reading!
Yeah, I wrestle with this too from time to time. Ultimately I've decided to stay away from controversy. I want my blog to be fun for my friends and family who read, so I keep it pretty light-hearted. I rarely come right out and express an opinion about religion or politics, but try to convey my ideas a little more subtly.
It's your blog, your space....You can make it whatever you like. I stay away from the controversial stuff, but I still get grief from "anonymous" commenters from time to time. You can't please everyone. Blog to please *yourself*!
Ahhh the controversy... LOL!
