Caitlin Upton's Amazing Race

Well, well, well. Just when I thought South Carolina had been in the news enough. Pushing the limits of her 15 minutes of fame arises Caitlin Upton once again. Yes, you know Miss Upton. She was Miss Teen South Carolina 2007 an honors student hailing from Lexington High School.

During the Miss Teen USA pageant she was asked: "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

Miss Upton's response was this classic little gem: "I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children."

She took 4th place in the pageant.

Fast forward to 2010. Seems Miss Upton decided she wanted to go on "The Amazing Race" and even though she is only 20 and the minimum age is 21, she is on this season's show. Now, I have never watched this show, probably never would have, but I, for one, can't wait to see clips of her with her, uh, maps. I do hope she will be able to find her way around the world.

Her very presence on this season's show has prompted videos of Miss Upton's convoluted answer to such a simple question to pop up again. Every commercial I have seen for "The Amazing Race" has included this priceless bit of stage fright gone a muck. How fun. The Yale Book of Quotations lists this quote as the second most memorable quote of 2007. It has been viewed on YouTube over 40 MILLION times! YIKES!

Amazing, alright. Amazing that someone can build a career (yes, she has appeared in several television shows according to her Wikipedia site) off of a truly embarrassing moment. You know what I say? I say, "Go for it, girl...turn a negative into a positive and see who has the last laugh!"

***Note to my male readers: I chose this picture JUST FOR YOU...and left it large...hope you enjoy!

Why does the media continue to find those who represent the absolute worst of our state? I'm afraid we're becoming the new Florida.

LOL, you sure have some dandies there! I remember when that happened with her. At least she's pretty.

I still find that video of her answering that question to be one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. After two years and countless viewings I still LMAO every. single. time.

But, I saw her somewhere recently and she came across as really sweet and was even able to poke fun at herself. Which is always a good quality to have.

And she's damn cute! LOL ;-)

This type of thing is my favorite.. The perfect storm of ignorance meets arrogance. I loved her response. "The Iraq!"
I don't even think she is all that hot... too skinny for my taste. AND it still won't get me to watch the amazing race

Honestly, I found that clip to be so funny, I didn't even know what state she represented.
